What is Hospital Diversion?

Hospital diversion provides an alternative to A&E or inpatient psychiatric admissions for young people experiencing emotional or behavioural crises. Instead of being admitted to a hospital setting, they are supported in specialised crisis placements or home-based interventions designed to de-escalate, stabilise, and reframe the situation.

Skilled and Compassionate Carers

Each hospital diversion is handled with a bespoke care plan, created in collaboration with Local Authorities, Integrated Care Boards, families, and young people themselves. These plans may include therapeutic support, structured routines, and tailored interventions to address the underlying causes of distress.
